Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Smart Chat Assistant Chrome extension ("the extension") and the server that supports it. The extension is built and operated by Dawood Zafar ("we", "us", "our"). Our general site privacy policy covers the rest of dawoodzafar.us.
1. Information we handle
- Chat history and settings. These are stored locally in your browser. We do not receive a copy of them.
- Text you send. When you use a mode (Chat, Rewrite, Grammar, Summarize or Explain), the text you submit is sent to our server and passed through to an AI provider, which produces the reply that is returned to you. The text and the reply are stored on our server.
- License key. If you buy Pro, the license key you paste into Settings → Paid plan is sent to our server and checked with Polar to confirm your plan.
- Payment and purchase details. Payments are handled by Polar, which is the merchant of record. Polar collects your payment details, processes payment and tax, and emails you your license key. We never collect or see your card details.
- Technical information. Like any web service, our server receives technical information that comes with every request, such as your IP address and request details.
2. How we use it
- To provide the extension, including producing replies and applying your plan.
- To verify your license key and confirm that your Pro subscription is active.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To respond when you contact us for support or a request about your data.
3. Who we share it with
- An AI provider. The text you send is passed to a third-party AI provider so that it can generate the reply.
- Polar. Your license key is checked with Polar, and Polar processes your payment.
- Service providers. Companies that host and run the infrastructure behind the extension, only as needed to operate it.
- Legal reasons. If the law requires it, or to protect our rights, users or the service.
We do not sell your data.
4. Please avoid sending sensitive information
Because the text you submit is sent to our server and an AI provider, please do not include passwords, payment card numbers or other sensitive information in it.
5. Storage and retention
Chat history and settings stay in your browser until you clear them or remove the extension. Information stored on our server is kept for as long as we need it to operate and secure the service, resolve problems and meet legal obligations, and is then deleted. You can ask us to delete it sooner (see section 6).
6. Your choices and rights
- Delete your local chat history and settings by clearing them in the extension or uninstalling it.
- Cancel your subscription and manage your purchase in the Polar customer portal.
- Email dawood.dixeam@gmail.com to ask what information we hold about you, or to ask us to correct or delete it. We will act on reasonable requests.
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information on our server. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International processing
Our server, the AI provider and Polar may process information in countries other than your own.
9. Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
